Now that we have explored some of the conventions of short story writing, we may want to take an historical perspective. Learning something about the author, the times in which he lived, and the times in which the story takes place can be helpful to understanding the meaning of a story. This page contains links to web sites and pages having to do with William Faulkner and his time period.

Assignment:
Your assignment is to visit at least three of these sites and then write a letter and send it by e-mail to two of your classmates with a copy to your professor, explaining what you learned about Faulkner from these sources. Be sure to begin your letter "Dear name." If you receive more than two from your classmates, send them on to someone else.
