Worth vs. Height in Sonnet 116

With instruments like the Hubble Telescope, shown at right (click this artist's conception to visit the Hubble site), astronomers can measure much more accurately the "height," or distance, of stars like the North Star. But that doesn't capture the importance of the North Star as a beacon to home or freedom.

So it is with love, according to this poem. You can quantify love, as in "how much did I get for Christmas," but that doesn't capture the importance of feeling loved when facing a family crisis, the unconditional dependence of a baby, or the knowledge that a lover's devotion is unshakable.
