Comparing Sample Essays

The Task: Which of the sample essays about "The Silken Tent" is the best essay among those linked below and what are the strengths and weaknesses of each essay?  You may be asked to consider this open-ended question separately or as a capstone exercise following the 25-item quiz on Robert Frost's poem, "The Silken Tent," which comprises most of this website.

In your written deliberations (use your own word processor and either print or paste/attach to email for your instructor, as you are directed, keeping a copy for yourself), you may refer to each essay by its short title, shown on the buttons below.  These sample essays are arranged in no particular order and can be read in any order.  These buttons also appear at the top of each essay page.

Hint: The best written essay may or may not be the one with which you agree the most.  Consider the writer's ideas (content), style (vocabulary, sentence structure), and organization (including "coherence," or how well the writer takes the reader along to the next paragraph or even the next sentence).

An Extra Challenge:  After you have considered each of the student samples of essays, which are linked by the buttons below, write a better essay, your own definitive word about "The Silken Tent."  (See a multi-faceted analysis of another Frost poem to get an idea of how to write a complete explication.)
