Serendipity

"Although I began with predefined plans, goals, and methods, the critical moments have been those that were unplanned--responding to a student question, a perplexed look, a request during class for topic outlines.

"Several times this semester after reviewing the text, lecturing, homework, and quizzes, my students have needed something more.  For example, last Monday night I had to cover binary arithmetic for students in my networking class, based on the reactions of the previous week.  It was interactive, not covered by the text, took 3 hours, but they will get it now.  We will review again next Monday.

"I learned that we must be responsive, individualize, and personalize to create an effective teaching environment."
