In this sample, which is included here by permission of the writer, student Rosa Broach does a competent job with an early
version of research option W on the U. S. entry into World War I.

Students
were required to write an abstract to be turned in during the class when we
discussed their research question. In Rosa's case, that was during the
time we discussed Book 3. Students were also asked to include the abstract
with their documented report. Below is a facsimile of Rosa's abstract.
